Mine Explosion in China, 19 Workers Killed


A coal mine in southwest China explode due to gas leakage. Reportedly, 19 workers were killed and 24 others were still trapped in the mine.

According to news agency Xinhua, Thursday, November 10, 2011, accident occurred at6:30 local time in the coal mine Sizhuang, Qujing city, Yunnan province. Not known exactlythe number of workers in the mine when the disaster occurred.

About 30 firefighters, 100 professional rescuers, and 300 paramedics deployed to rescuethe workers. Two emergency communications vehicles, six fire trucks, and more than 30ambulances were also sent to evacuate the victims.

Qujing provincial government announced earlier that there has been an explosion caused by gas leak in mine. This calamity adds to the long record of China as the country with the highest record of deaths of miners.

Last week, an explosion at the mine killed eight workers in the city Sanmexia. However,as reported by CNN, the largest explosion occurred in 2002, with the death toll reached6995 people. (eh)
